Nasty was one the best songs of 2011, and now Nas drops this? Great things are expected from the new album.
Also, filthy beat from Salaam Remi and the late, great Heavy D.
This is a fucking phenomenal article (from the regularly excellent AV Club) on the reasons for liking/disliking Community (spoiler alert, they are kind of similar).
I’ve wrestled with this conundrum ever since the slightly disappointing second season. I like Community, but why don’t I love it? It’s a show with a cult audience that plays heavily to my pop culture sensibilities. Yet I often find myself disappointed when watching it (much like post-3rd season 30 Rock, which is a whole other issue). Sure, there are high expectations, but isn’t that part of being one of the best shows on television?
My biggest gripe with the show is undoubtedly it’s fans. And that’s unquestionably my own problem, because I’m someone who hates when people are obsessive about things that I find mediocre. It’s honestly fucking weird and I don’t know where it comes from. When Community went on hiatus the internet’s (over)reaction made me so fucking angry, just like when people cry about Arrested Development only being around for 3 seasons, when in reality it lasted longer than it’s terrible ratings should have granted it, and it couldn’t even sustain it’s brilliance through it’s whole run (seriously, go back and try to watch the Mr F thread, it’s horrible).
I’m kind of rambling here, and it’s likely because this article didn’t answer anything for me in any quantitative way. It perfectly points out my feelings about this TV show, in that they are mixed and somewhat unreasonable, and that’s just how it is. It’s weird to simultaneously like something for being original and disliking it for the perceived failures of it’s originality. But as it stands, those are my feelings on Community.
